Dennis Syrett FROI RBA RSMA SEA (1932 – 2026)

It is with great sadness that the RBA announces the passing of our esteemed member and friend, Dennis Syrett FROI RBA RSMA SEA. A celebrated figurative painter, Dennis leaves behind a vibrant legacy of masterful oil paintings and a reputation for extraordinary warmth within the British art community.

Taking up painting in his early thirties, Dennis quickly established himself as a master of colour and light. His lively canvases, often inspired by his extensive travels, earned him widespread acclaim and membership in several of Britain’s premier art societies. Alongside his highly valued membership in the RBA, he was a Fellow and former President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), as well as a member of the RSMA and SEA.

Beyond his immense talent, Dennis will be remembered for his unfailing kindness and the generous encouragement he offered to fellow artists throughout his career.

Dennis will be deeply missed by all of us at the RBA. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
