James Horton was born in London in 1948.
Since leaving the Royal College of Art in 1974 I have worked consistently as a professional artist undertaking commissions and exhibiting regularly in Britain and abroad.
The constant theme in my work is working from life. Everything I do begins as an observation whether it is working en plein air or in the studio working from a model. Large and complex compositions have always excited me especially – subjects with a slightlysurreal edge but even here everything begins with observation.
Drawing has been a perennial love and constant challenge throughout my working life.
I live and work in Cambridge.
