Paul was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1979, and a full Member in 1981. Having also exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists since the age of 16, he has been an elected member since 1997, and very early on served as Honorary Secretary.
He has won first prize in numerous prestigious competitions for his art work. These include: the Daily Mail NOT the Turner Prize, 2004, which is on a par with The Turner Prize, but specifically for figurative painting, and selected from 10,000 entries. First Prizes at the RBSA include: The Prize Show (twice), Open Oils, Open Drawing (twice), Members & Associates (three times). London based prizes include: FBA Women on canvas, RBA Rowney Prize, Spirit of London, Royal-Over-Seas-League (twice), Stowells Trophy national competition for art colleges, and the RA Schools Turner Gold Medal.
Additional mixed exhibitions include: the V & A Museum (The Garden Exhibition between paintings by Stanley Spencer and a Spencer Gore), National Portrait Gallery, RA Summer Exhibition, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Midlands Arts Centre, New Art Gallery Walsall. He has been an invited artist for Petleys, Cork St – An Exhibition of Drawings, plus Making a Mark (Mall Galleries) devoted to drawings by leading names of the contemporary art scene.
His qualifications include MA/Postgraduate Certificate – fine art painting (RA Schools, London), Postgraduate Diploma – Art History (UCE), BA hons – Fine Art (Falmouth), Further Education and Adult Education Teaching Cert’ (UCE).
He has taught countless students at numerous venues over five decades.
Images from his school days onwards are included in over 50 art books written by a range of authors, and he has been commissioned to write numerous magazine articles. He is currently seeking a publisher for his memoir called Paul Bartlett: a Life in Pictures, and welcomes enquiries.
