Will Taylor was born in 1963 and grew up in Liverpool.
Will is an Artist Printmaker working in intaglio printmaking and painting in oils. He is also known for large scale charcoal drawings, and his working methods are linked by common themes of animals and topographical subjects.
A member of the RBA since 2018 he is also a longstanding member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA). He exhibits in galleries in the South East and London, and has been a regular contributor to the Mall Galleries, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Bankside Gallery and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. His work is in various collections including the University of San Diego Print Collection and the Victoria & Albert Museum Permanent Print Collection.
He lives and works in Rye.
My inspiration has been the masters of the etching revival including Whistler, Meryon, Short and Griggs. Consequently my prints have a traditional feel: they are typically copper plate, hardgroundetchings using only line and cross-hatch in monotone to create a range of tones. Many of the printmaking themes are also explored in oil, particularly the topographical subjects local and around the world, further inspired by Sargent and Zorn. The charcoal drawings emerged as a precursor to printmaking, to work on a large scale to explore drawing, tone and character. Art teaches me to look.
