Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

The Royal Society of British Artists [RBA] is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our membership, our Council, working parties and committees, as well as non-member contributors and visitors to our exhibitions.

Our aim is for the RBA to be truly representative of all sections of society and to ensure that opportunities offered by the RBA are open to all artists regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Our intention is to foster an art society free of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination, promoting dignity and respect for all, and where individual differences and the contributions of all members, applicants, candidates and persons employed by us in any capacity, are recognised and valued.

The Royal Society of British Artists commits to:

  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, as they are good practice and will be of benefit to our Society and the art world.

  • Create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all colleagues are recognised and valued.

  • Require colleagues to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

  • Support anyone who feels they have been subject to discrimination, intimidation, bullying, or harassment to raise their concerns, so that where necessary we can apply corrective measures according to our Society’s Rules.

  • Review all our practices and procedures regularly, so that fairness is maintained at all times and ensure our Policy is continually promoted.

This Policy will be drawn to the attention of our members and to members of the public, who may view it on our website along with our Privacy Policy.

This Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy is fully agreed and supported by Senior Officers of The Royal Society of British Artists, The Company [The Royal Society of British Artists Limited] and by the RBA Council.
